Women's NBA Jerseys: A Different Chart, Not a Smaller Men's
Women's NBA jerseys are not simply a scaled-down men's cut. The chest is narrower relative to the length, the waist is shaped, and the shoulder is pulled in. Our women's chart is shared across every league and starts at S, with the equivalent US dress size printed beside it — converting down from a men's size gets you close but not right, so measure and use the table.
| Women's size | US dress size | Bust (in) | Bust (cm) | Waist (in) | Waist (cm) | Hip (in) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | 4 – 6 | 33 – 35 | 84 – 89 | 26 – 28 | 66 – 71 | 36 – 38 |
| M | 8 – 10 | 36 – 38 | 91 – 97 | 29 – 31 | 74 – 79 | 39 – 41 |
| L | 12 – 14 | 39 – 41 | 99 – 104 | 32 – 34 | 81 – 86 | 42 – 44 |
| XL | 16 – 18 | 42 – 44 | 107 – 112 | 35 – 38 | 89 – 97 | 45 – 47 |
| 2XL | 20 – 22 | 45 – 48 | 114 – 122 | 39 – 42 | 99 – 107 | 48 – 51 |
Youth NBA Sizes
| Youth size | Numeric tag | Age | Chest (in) | Height (in) | Height (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | 8 | 6 – 8 yrs | 26 – 28 | 48 – 52 | 122 – 132 |
| M | 10 – 12 | 9 – 12 yrs | 28 – 30 | 52 – 58 | 132 – 147 |
| L | 14 – 16 | 13 – 15 yrs | 30 – 32 | 58 – 63 | 147 – 160 |
| XL | 18 – 20 | 16 – 18 yrs | 32 – 34 | 63 – 67 | 160 – 170 |
Youth sizing runs on height and age first. Youth XL tops out at a 32 to 34 inch chest, while adult S starts at 38 — so when the shirt gets tight across the chest, adult S is the next step, and the adult garment is several inches longer, which is what a growing teenager has actually run out of.
Five Fit Mistakes Basketball Fans Make Most
- Buying for chest length and ignoring length. NBA jerseys run two to four inches longer than a t-shirt in the same letter — this is the number one reason for returns.
- Sizing down twice. One size down gives a fitted look; two sizes down pulls the armhole into the armpit.
- Measuring over a bare chest, then layering a hoodie underneath. Measure over what you will actually wear.
- Assuming Authentic and Swingman share a chart. They are close in the chest and very different in length.
- Reading the letter on an old jersey from a different brand as your size. Brand cuts differ by half a size or more.
Why NBA Jerseys Are Cut So Big
A basketball jersey is designed to be worn over a compression shirt and shorts, by a person who is seven feet tall and moving sideways. That design intent survives all the way down to the fan version: a long body, a wide chest, and generous armholes that let the shoulder seams sit well past the shoulder.
For fans, that is either the whole point or the whole problem. If you want the authentic on-court silhouette — the long drape, the number hanging past your waist — buy true to size. If you want the jersey to look like a shirt you would wear to dinner, size down one.
Measure First: Chest, Then Length
Chest decides whether it fits. Length decides whether it looks right. On an NBA jersey you want to think about both, because the body is long enough that a size that fits your chest may still hang past your hips.
| Size | Numeric tag | Chest (in) | Chest (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 44 | 38 – 40 | 96 – 102 |
| M | 48 | 41 – 43 | 104 – 109 |
| L | 52 | 44 – 46 | 112 – 117 |
| XL | 56 | 47 – 49 | 119 – 124 |
| 2XL | 60 | 50 – 52 | 127 – 132 |
That is our men's NBA chart exactly as published on our size guide page — chest is the governing number, and the numeric tag sits beside the letter. Larger sizes are stocked on selected jerseys and the available range is listed on each product page.
Swingman vs Fast Break vs Authentic
Three names, three garments. They are not interchangeable and they do not fit the same.
| Swingman | Fast Break | Authentic | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fit | Athletic fan cut, roomy through the body | Loosest fan cut, straight body | On-court spec, long and tapered |
| Numbers | Heat-applied twill | Screen-printed | Stitched twill |
| Feel | Mid-weight mesh | Lighter, softer | Heavier, structured |
| Runs | About one size large | Up to two sizes large | One size large, but cut longer |
| Buy it if | You want the standard fan jersey | You want the cheapest comfortable option | You want what the players wear |
Fast Break runs the biggest of the three. If you are between a medium and a large in a Swingman, the Fast Break in medium is usually the better call. For the three tiers side by side across all four major leagues — including what changes in the fabric, the stitching and the price — start there.
Should You Size Down?
This is the question that comes up most, and the honest answer depends on what you are wearing it for.
- Wearing it to a game over a tee or hoodie — stay true to size. The room is the point.
- Wearing it as everyday streetwear — size down one so it drapes like a longline tee instead of a dress.
- Wearing it to play in — size down one, and make sure the armholes still let you raise your arms.
- Buying for a teenager who is still growing — buy true to size and let them grow into the length.
One caveat: do not size down twice. The armholes on an NBA jersey are already generous, and going down two sizes pulls the whole garment up into the armpit in a way that looks wrong from the front and feels worse.

How an NBA Jersey Should Sit
- Shoulder seams fall 1–2 inches past the edge of your shoulder. This is normal, not a fault.
- The hem lands between mid-hip and mid-thigh — shorter than that and you have sized down too far.
- Two to three inches of ease at the chest.
- The number on the back sits flat, not bunched at the small of your back.
